A couple of weeks ago when we went to the Progressive International Motorcycle Show, there was a vendor selling all kinds of designer sunglasses – Chanel, Ray-Ban, Coach… you name it, they had it. Because the inner fashionista in me needed a break from bikes, I scurried over there only to find out what part of me knew anyway. Every single item that was for sale was a FAKE! As someone who worked hard to buy an authentic pair of Ray-Bans I find it so insulting that vendors actually sell these frauds to unsuspecting customers. Buying fake sunglasses is dangerous – they may not even protect your eyes from UV rays. I put together this little guide to authenticating Ray-Bans because knowledge is power, baby, and we don’t want to be giving our hard earned cash to these crooks! 😉
Authentic Ray Ban sunglasses should have an “RB” followed by a number on the inside of the left arm. The style name of the glasses should also be on the inside of the left arm just as my pair says “Top Rectangular”.
Most, if not all, Ray Bans will have clear nose pads. If the nose pads are not completely clear, they should be pretty darn close and you should be able to see an “R-B” engraved in each of the metal centers.
Every single authentic Ray Ban sunglasses case should have a round logo on the front that says three things: 100% UV Protection, Ray-Ban, and Sunglasses by Luxotica. “Made in Italy” should also be embossed in the leather near the round logo. Newer cases also have “Ray-Ban” engraved in the snap that closes the case.
An authentic pair of Ray Ban sunglasses will always, always, always have the Ray-Ban logo on the upper corner of the right lens. If you hold your sunglasses up to the light at just the right angle, there should be an “RB” etched into the far side of the left lens. It’s hard to spot which is one of the biggest reasons the frauds miss it!
NARS POWERMATTE LIP PIGMENT ($26)
My all time favorite lipstick of any brand, color, or formula. I stumbled across this baby when I was testing lip colors at Ulta and had to have it that very day, but I left without it and actually received it as a Christmas gift from my best friend, Shelby. I only own one of these right now and it is in the shade ‘Save the Queen’ – it’s really difficult to find a lipstick that compliments my skin tone and this is the most perfect product I’ve come across to date. It goes on really creamy and dries quickly, but not so fast that you can’t apply it evenly. One of my favorite things about this lip pigment is that the applicator is teeny tiny and I can actually line my lips with it. It does transfer a little bit, but not enough to notice that the product is coming off. At the risk of sounding disgusting, I will admit that I fell asleep wearing this the other night and when I woke up the next morning it looked exactly the same as it did the day before.
NYX LIP LINGERIE ($7)
If you’re going to buy any of these, you HAVE to get the shade ‘Cheekies’ for day and ‘Exotic’ for night. These apply VERY smoothly, but they’re very creamy so if you’re not careful they could get a little messy. What makes me love these is the fact that after the product is dry, it feels like my lips are completely bare which is AWESOME because there’s nothing I hate more than peeling my matte lips apart all day.
L’OREAL INFALLIBLE PRO MATTE LIQUID LIPSTICK ($10)
This one is a little more sticky and a little more heavy, but the pigmentation is beautiful. I own the shade ‘Plum Bum’ which looks like a pinky-purple shade from the outside but is actually a deep purple color once applied. This little number lasts all day long and I don’t know about you but I definitely think a deep plum shade is sultry – it draws attention to my eyes, too! This lipstick has a “tear drop” shaped applicator so it’s a little more difficult to apply to the outside. I’m one of those people who is convinced that L’Oreal can do no wrong, so I guess you’ll have to take my word for it and try it out for yourself. 🙂
RIMMEL STAY MATTE LIQUID LIP COLOR ($5)
For only $5.00 this is a STEAL! I only had to apply one coat for this one to be popping, and that’s shocking for a cheaper lip product. It lasts for hours, isn’t sticky, and is even BETTER than Kylie Jenner’s liquid lipsticks. I’d honestly compare this lip color to the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lip Color, so if you know and love that one, then you need to know and love this one. Need I say more? 😉
